“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” [John 3:16]

The story of Jesus Christ is the story of God’s love for broken humanity, and His desire to redeem and save us from sin and death.

Missing The Mark

No matter what you believe, the bible is very clear about our relationship with God. God created humanity for Himself and has always desired to have a relationship with us. However, we rebelled and came under the control of sin. God is good, merciful, kind and loving, yet He is holy and hates sin and evil.

The bible also tells us that every human being was born under the power and control of sin. To sin is “to miss the mark,” that is, the standard of righteousness (what is right, good, and acceptable), which was set by God from the beginning of creation.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” [Romans 3:23]

Broken Relationship With God

For that reason, our relationship with God is broken and we are separated from Him. Even our best, kindest and most generous works do not count with God and have no value before Him.

The consequences of sin and the effect of our separation from God include pain, suffering and heartache, sickness and diseases, hardships, all kinds of bondages and physical death. The ultimate penalty for sin, however, is eternal death. [Romans 6:23]

Incredibly, God did not stop loving us, and desired for us to be reconciled with Him. Despite His hatred for sin, God loves humanity and made a way for us to overcome sin and be reconciled with Him.

Jesus Christ Paid The Price

Through His Son, Jesus Christ, God came down to earth in human form to restore our broken relationship with Him. (Colossians 1:19-20). Christ lived a perfect sinless life (1 Peter 2:22), but died a cruel and painful death on the cross. By His death, Christ paid the full price to save and redeem us from sin and its penalty. Christ rose again, and is alive today to give us new life and reconcile us to God. (John 10:10)

All that God requires is for us to simply believe in Jesus Christ and what He has done for us, and repent. To repent is to do a U-turn with our lives; it is to transfer our faith and trust in ourselves and other things, to faith and trust in Jesus Christ. This is what saves us from sin, reconciles us to God and delivers us from eternal death.

How Do I Respond To This Love?

“…If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Romans 10:9-10

Yes, it is as simple as that! Simply believe, accept and receive Jesus Christ as the Son of God, who was sent to save humanity. Confess that He died to save you from sin, and He rose from the dead and is alive to reconcile you to God. Repent of your sinful nature and ask Jesus to forgive and cleanse your sins. Ask Jesus to come and live in your heart.

Pray the prayer below or use it as a guideline on how to pray. When you confess Jesus, repent of your sins and invited Him into your heart, you get saved. Your relationship with God is restored; and you became a child of God and part of His family. (John 1:12)

A Prayer of Repentance…

If you believe in Jesus Christ and what He did for you, and would like to repent and be reconciled with God, you may say this prayer, right where you are now:

“Heavenly Father, I know that I have sinned against you and that my sins separate me from You. I am truly sorry. I turn away from my sinful past and turn to You for forgiveness. Please forgive and cleanse all my sins, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that Your Son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins, that He was raised from the dead, and lives, in order to give me access to You and make me Your child and a citizen of Your Kingdom. I invite Jesus to become my Saviour and the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. I pray that I will follow His example and do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
