One of the most effective ways of encouraging one’s self is to bless the Lord; that is, to acknowledge Him for who He is and what He’s done, and deliberately praise and thank Him!
Lamentations 3:21-24 NKJV
“[21] This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. [22] Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. [23] They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. [24] “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!””
The word “recall” in the Hebrew means, “to make to return to my heart.” It is a deliberate effort to remember and acknowledge what God has done and what He means to us. Therefore, despite what was happening in his life and all around him, the prophet Jeremiah made a decision to recall, recollect and remind himself of the mercies, compassions and faithfulness of God. Of course, that caused him to hope again!
BLESS THE LORD O MY SOUL
Psalm 103:1 NKJV
“Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!”
Over the next few days, why don’t you join me on a journey of refreshing our memories, that is, recollecting, remembering and reminding ourselves of what God has done for us? Let us be deliberate; let us be sincere and honest with ourselves and God. Then, with hearts filled with gratitude, we can rise up and command our souls to bless the LORD!
