Attitudes For Worship (2)
Deuteronomy 12:8 NKJV
“You shall not at all do as we are doing here today-every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes.”
Our attitude in worship is very crucial to our relationship and walk with God. God alone determines the attitude of worship that is acceptable to Him. Let’s continue our discussion on the prescribed biblical attitude for worship, which we must know and abide by.
2. We Are the Temple of God
We must constantly remember that we are the temple, habitation and dwelling place of God on the earth, and live as such. He is Holy, therefore, we must consecrate and keep ourselves pure for His Spirit to dwell and manifest in us.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 AMP
“[19] Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God, and that you are not your own [property]? [20] You were bought with a price [you were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made His own]. So then, honor and glorify God with your body.”
Romans 12:1 AMP
“[1] Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship.”
• Thus, one of the greatest ways to worship God is to keep ourselves pure and separate unto Him. This means that we must be sanctified and set apart for God, in both the sacred and the secular.
3. Worship In The Beauty of Holiness.
Another attitude we must develop is “to worship God in the beauty of Holiness”.
Psalm 29:2 AMP
“Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; worship the LORD in the beauty and majesty of His holiness [as the creator and source of holiness].”
Psalm 96:9 NKJV
“Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.”
1 Chronicles 16:29 NKJV
“Give to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him. Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness!”
a. To worship God in the beauty of holiness, we must worship Him in reverence and awe. These days, we seem to have lost the awe and reverential fear of God. However, the scripture tells us that God is clothed in the beauty of His holiness and sits in majesty and splendour. He dwells in purity, perfection, awesome glory. We are to observe and acknowledge these and express an attitude of reverence, awe, honour and respect towards Him.
Matthew 6:9 NKJV
“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”
Jesus taught us in the Lord’s Prayer to acknowledge the holiness of God, when we approach Him in prayer.
b. Secondly, to worship God in the beauty of holiness we must endeavour to be like Him, becoming more and more like Him. As living sacrifices, our lives, as well as our sacrifices, are to be holy and acceptable to Him. Thus, our daily sanctification is the very essence of worship!
1 Peter 1:14-16 NLT
“[14] So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. [15] But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. [16] For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.””
AMEN AND AMEN!!!
