Lessons From Moses’ Tabernacle (9)
The first function of the priesthood was to minister to and serve God. Aaron and his sons were consecrated by God as priests to minister before Him in the sanctuary
WORSHIP IS MINISTRY TO GOD
As priests, they were to minister at the altar, guard the sanctity of the sanctuary and protect the holy and sacred things of God. They were also to ensure that the fire was always burning upon the Brazen Altar. As priests, they were to minister to God at the Table of Shewbread, and attend to the Golden Lampstand. The lamps were to burn continually and never to be turned out. They were also to minister to God at the Altar of Incense.
This order of ritualistic worship, where Aaron and his sons were chosen as priests to minister to God, is a copy and portrait of continuous and uninterrupted sanctification, prayer and worship.
Hebrews 8:5 TPT
The priests on earth serve in a temple that is but a copy modeled after the heavenly sanctuary; a shadow of the reality. For when Moses began to construct the tabernacle God warned him and said, “You must precisely follow the pattern I revealed to you on Mount Sinai.”
Colossians 2:17 (ESV)
“These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.”
CONTINUOUS SANCTIFICATION
1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.”
As New Testament priests, Jesus has paid the price, removed the veil of separation and given us access to God. Our priesthood, therefore, is a continuous lifestyle of sanctification, pressing on in the Word and Spirit, to become more mature in our worship and walk with God.
1 Peter 1:15-16
“[15] But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. [16] For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.””
We serve a holy God, who has set us apart as His priests, in Christ. As priests of God, we must fulfil the copy and also have a ‘personal altar’ or daily lifestyle of sanctification – living in the Word of God, growing in Christlikeness by living in the Spirit and overcoming the flesh, and offering daily prayers, praises and thanksgiving to God.
True worship starts and continues with sanctification; therefore, our priesthood and worship starts with sanctification. Sanctification is about holiness, that is the will of God for us.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4
“[3] God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. [4] Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honour.”
This is the same as growing and maturing in the Lord and requires our obedience to the word of God and the leading and direction of the Holy Spirit. This will transform us, making us more like Jesus Christ and produce His character and nature in us.
It is important and necessary that we continue to grow, mature and be transformed in our daily walk with the Lord – forsaking worldly ways and striving to think right, speak right, behave and act right, do right, walk right and work right, according to the word and the Spirit.
*THE INTEGRITY OF TRUE WORSHIP *
The integrity of true worship is that there is consistency in our lives, as priests of God.
– There is a consistency between what is inside and what is outside.
– There is consistency between belief and behaviour.
– There is a consistency between our word and our ways.
– There is a consistency between our attitude and our actions.
– There is a consistency between our values and our practice.
