Lessons From Moses’ Tabernacle (13)
There are many lessons to learn from Moses’ Tabernacles. The fact that the system of worship that Moses build and instituted was given to him by revelation, as a copy of the true heavenly system of worship, should grasp our attention and motivate us to seek the true meaning of these things and establish them in our personal lives and in the Church, the Body of Christ.
GOD ALONE DETERMINES HOW HE IS TO BE WORSHIPPED
Another major lesson we must learn from Moses’ Tabernacle is that God alone determines how He is to be worshipped. We need to know that not every form of worship is acceptable to Him.
Deuteronomy 12:4,8 NKJV
“[4] You shall not worship the LORD your God with such things… [8] “You shall not at all do as we are doing here today-every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes.”
RELIGIOUS WORSHIP
God hates religious worship, that is, worship that does not proceed from the heart. It is the worship of the “Unknown God.” It is the form of worship where there is no true knowledge of God or tangible relationship or fellowship with Him; people just go through the rituals and motions, to soothe their consciences or to try and pacify God.
Another form of religious worship is when people are not really seeking to know God and walk with Him by living a life that pleases Him. However, they go to Church, give their tithes and offerings, and even serve in Church, but ignore the Word and Spirit of God and continue to live in sin, worldliness and unrighteousness. This form of worship is idolatrous and, at best, religious.
Psalm 50:7-15 NLT
“[7] O my people, listen as I speak. Here are my charges against you, O Israel: I am God, your God! [8] I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer. [9] But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens. [10] For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. [11] I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine. [12] If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it. [13] Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats? [14] Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. [15] Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”
We must be very careful and search our hearts to ensure that our worship is not merely religious. God is relational and wants more than our songs, tithes and offerings or service. He wants our worship to flow from a relationship with Him, that is founded on our knowledge of Him.
HOW I CAME OUT OF RELIGIOUS WORSHIP
Several years ago, the Father asked me a question, “Why do you approach Me like the heathen approach their gods?”
The question startled me a bit! “What do you mean?” I nervously asked.
He replied immediately, “You approach Me with fear in your heart. You are afraid even to be yourself before Me. You have an orphan mentality and are not sure whether I will even answer your prayers. There is no joy in your heart when you come into My presence. You only pray because you’re afraid that I will be offended if you don’t pray!”
One thing I know is that this conversation became a landmark in my walk with the Lord, as it changed my perspective of God and my entire walk with Him, especially my prayer life! Something clicked, as the Father showed me that He is my Father, and wants more from our relationship than me just approaching Him out of duty, obligation and fear!
This encounter moved me from religious worship, as I realised that the Father wants me to know Him as more than just “God.” He wants a deeper relationship and fellowship with me; He wants me to acknowledge and experience Him as my Father and Friend. The Father wants the same from everyone of us… Worship is love and the Father wants a love relationship with us, not a ritualistic one.
