The Tabernacle Of David
We cannot conclude this series of teachings on the restoration of true worship without making reference to the tabernacle of David.
Amos 9:11-12 NKJV
“[11] On that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down, and repair its damages; I will raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old; [12] that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the Gentiles who are called by My name,” says the LORD who does this thing.”
Prophet Amos prophesied the raising, repairing and rebuilding of the tabernacle of David, which had fallen down. Once restored, the remnant of Edom and all the Gentiles who are called by His name would turn to the LORD and become His possession. What is the tabernacle of David and what does it represent?
A TABERNACLE WITHOUT A VEIL
After David had been made king, his greatest desire was to restore the true worship of God in Israel. He, therefore, decided to return the Ark of the Covenant to its rightful place in Israel.
1 Chronicles 13:2-3 NKJV
“[2] And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is of the LORD our God, let us send out to our brethren everywhere who are left in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites who are in their cities and their common-lands, that they may gather together to us; [3] and let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we have not inquired at it since the days of Saul.”
However, King David did not take the Ark back to Shiloh, where the Tabernacle of Moses was situated, and the previous location for worship. Rather, David built a Tabernacle (tent or booth) within Jerusalem and brought the Ark to be in the midst of the people. In this way, God would dwell in the midst of His people.
There was one remarkable characteristic of David’s Tabernacle, which distinguished it from Moses Tabernacle and Solomon’s future temple. David’s Tabernacle had no veil, and so the people had access to the Mercy Seat and the Shekinah glory of God! They could worship in the very presence of God before the Ark of the Covenant!
HOWEVER, THIS IS ONLY ATTAINABLE IN CHRIST! Only Christ could take away the veil, the barrier of sin. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world and gives us access to God, by His Blood! David’s tabernacle, therefore, was a type of the true heavenly tabernacle, where there is no veil and we have access to the presence of God through the Blood of Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 10:19-22 TPT
“[19] And now we are brothers and sisters in God’s family because of the blood of Jesus, and he welcomes us to come into the most holy sanctuary in the heavenly realm—boldly and without hesitation. [20] For he has dedicated a new, life-giving way for us to approach God. For just as the veil was torn in two, Jesus’ body was torn open to give us free and fresh access to him! [21] And since we now have a magnificent High Priest to welcome us into God’s house, [22] we come closer to God and approach him with an open heart, fully convinced that nothing will keep us at a distance from him. For our hearts have been sprinkled with blood to remove impurity, and we have been freed from an accusing conscience. Now we are clean, unstained, and presentable to God inside and out!”
THE JERUSALEM COUNCIL
As the Church grew, none of the apostles anticipated the conversion of the Gentiles. Therefore, a great conflict arose within the Church, because many of the Jewish believers objected to the conversion of the Gentiles. The apostles and elders came together in Jerusalem to deliberate on this.
Acts 15:13-18 NKJV
“[13] And after they had become silent, James answered, saying, “Men and brethren, listen to me: [14] Simon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name. [15] And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written: [16] ‘After this I will return and will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will set it up; [17] So that the rest of mankind may seek the LORD, Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, Says the LORD who does all these things.’ [18] “Known to God from eternity are all His works.””
James referred the people gathered to the prophecy of Amos, that God was going to restore and repair the tabernacle of David, the tabernacle without a veil, to give all humanity, not just Israel, a chance to access His presence!
GOD’S VISION
This is the fulfilment of God’s vision for humanity and the earth; where He is acknowledge and worshipped in every corner of the earth, not remotely, but with His throne exalted in the midst of all peoples, tribes and nations. This is the purpose for which Jesus Christ came and died. This is the essence of the Great Commission – to proclaim to all humanity that sin has been dealt with, the veil of separation has been removed, and humanity has the opportunity to come before God and worship Him! This is God’s answer to the prayer Jesus taught us… “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven!”
Revelation 5:9-10 NKJV
“[9] And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, [10] And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.”
Revelation 7:9-10 NKJV
“[9] After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, [10] and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
Revelation 21:3 NKJV
“And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.”
AMEN AND AMEN!!!
