My Personal Journey With The Word (2)
Every one of us is unqualified when we first come to faith in Christ; however, we must work hard at reading, studying and building ourselves up to get better acquainted with Jesus Christ, and be approved of God, in whatever area of ministry that He calls us to. Praise God, this has been my story and testimony!
Exodus 3:4 NLT
“When the LORD saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied.”
I believe that was what happened to me! When the Lord saw that I was taking the word seriously and growing in it, He decided to show and give me more! The Holy Spirit would wake me up in the middle of the night and talk to me from the scriptures. He would often pick a topic, and lying on my bed, He would open my understanding, bringing scripture, after scripture! The first time this happened, He instructed me to “get up and write!” It was quite overwhelming!
Then one day, the Holy Spirit asked me to go on a 21-day fast, without first telling me what the fast was about. On the first day of the fast, He asked me to read Psalm 19 , and I spent all the 21 days digesting the psalm. I was amazed at the depth and wealth of knowledge embedded in just one psalm! From Psalm 19, the Holy Spirit showed me how God has revealed Himself on the earth – through the creation (which came into being through His spoken word), through His written word, and through Jesus Christ, His Living Word who became flesh. Ultimately, however, the perfect revelation of God on the earth is the man or woman in whom the Jesus Christ the Living Word actively dwells and manifests in holiness and purity!
After that experience, my hunger for the word of God grew. I set apart every Friday to wait on the Lord in fasting and prayer, and to study the word. I have done this for many, many years!
There was a lot of pressure on me to go to Bible School, do a Masters or Doctorate in Theology, etc. However, the Father would not allow me to do so. So, in effect I was “home-schooled” in the word of God by the Holy Spirit. All that I know, experience, share, and teach has come from the Holy Spirit – often through revelation. I guess, the Lord has made, or is making me, His approved worker, who can “rightly divide the word of truth.”
THREE THINGS REQUIRED
There were three things that the Lord required, and still requires, from me; namely,
1. My time, diligence and effort to read and study the word.
2. My willingness to practice and apply what I am learning
3. My willingness to share what I am learning with others. I discovered that the more I share the word, the more understanding, knowledge and revelation I receive. ( Ezra 7:10 )
Matthew 10:8b NKJV
“….Freely you have received, freely give.”
In this series, I hope to not only encourage you to grow deeper in the word by investing more time in reading and studying the word, but also show you why it is important and necessary for you to do so. I will also show you the various resources available and how you can make use full use of them to build yourself up in the word. I pray that you will grow to love the word of God as much as I do! In Jesus’ name. Amen!
