Why We Must Read And Study The Bible (3)
We are discussing some of the reasons why it is necessary for us grow deeper in the word by read and studying our Bibles.
6. IT REVEALS THE TRUTH TO US.
In this world of fake news, we certainly need to know the truth. God’s word is not just true, it is TRUTH. It is the standard for all truth. You can count on God’s Word because it is absolute, final and settled, established and unchanging.
Numbers 23:19 NKJV
“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”
Psalm 119:89 NKJV
“Forever O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven”.
God is omnipresent and omniscient. He is everywhere and sees and knows everything. He knows the end of a thing from its beginning, He knows all sides of every situation. Therefore, His word is true and ‘yea and amen.’ He does not and cannot lie! ( 2 Corinthians 1:20 )
God’s word reveals the truth about God, His righteousness and justice; His love and kindness towards us, and all His good plans and purposes for us. The enemy, on the other hand, tells us lies, which put us into bondage. If he can get us to doubt God and His word, he has us hooked, especially to fear. However, Jesus who is both the Word and the Truth sets us free from every bondage. ( John 1:1-5; John 14:6 )
John 8:31-32 NKJV
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.””
You can experience freedom from bondage, oppression, suppression and fear (of both man and demon), by reading the scriptures and discovering the truth God has embedded in them. God has made so many promises concerning your relationship and walk with Him. Search the scriptures, find out what He has said and written, and allow the truth to set you free.
7. IT PROTECTS US FROM DECEPTION.
Matthew 24:24-25 NLT
“[24] For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. [25] See, I have warned you about this ahead of time.”
Banks don’t teach their tellers to recognise counterfeit money. They teach them to recognise the true and genuine currency, so that when they handle fake money, they are able to recognise it immediately.
Ephesians 4:14 NLT
“Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.”
The more we read and study God’s word, the more we gain knowledge and are able to discern between what is truth and falsehood. In doing so, we will not be deceived or led astray.
2 Peter 2:1 NKJV
“But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.”
Psalm 119:29-30 NKJV
“Remove from me the way of lying, and grant me Your law graciously. I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me.”
Psalm 119:66-69 NKJV
“Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe Your commandments. Before I was afflicted, I went astray, but now I keep Your word.”
Studying God’s word protects us from getting deceived. It is our duty to know the scriptures and judge everything we hear or are taught. We must be like the Berean Christians and spend time in the Word to discover and apply its truth.
Acts 17:11 NKJV
“Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.”
