What Do You Need? (1)
Having laid a foundation and established the importance and need to study, obey and teach others the word of truth, in order to become approved workers of God, let’s now explore what we need to help us to do so.
2 Timothy 2:15 AMP
“Study [be diligent and work hard] and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth.”
Apart from the Holy Spirit, you also need the following, to be able to study the Word of God effectively.
*1. DETERMINATION AND COMMITMENT *
Ezra 7:10
_“For Ezra had firmly resolved to study the Law of the LORD and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel.” _
Psalm 119:15-16 NLT
“I WILL study your commandments and reflect on your ways. [16] I WILL delight in your decrees and not forget your word.”
Make the choice and decision, and be determined to read and study the word. Be resolute and stick to your decision until it becomes a daily habit. Ask for the Holy Spirit’s help, and He will supply the grace to do this.
2. TIME
Set time aside and be determined to read and study. You may start by setting aside 15-30 minutes at the beginning of the day and end of each day to read your Bible.
Joshua 1:8 NLT
_“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” _
Fix the time that best suits your circumstances. If you have a busy schedule and feel you don’t have time, ‘make’ time by waking up a bit earlier, sleeping a bit later or forfeiting a TV programme you enjoy watching.
Psalm 1:2 NKJV
_“But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.” _
Whatever time you choose, set it aside and dedicate it to the Lord. Talk to Him and let Him know that you are committing this time to Him and studying His word; ask Him to help and give you the grace to be faithful. He will supply the strength of mind to stick to it and be consistent with it.
Psalm 119:148 NKJV
“My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on Your word.”
