Approved Workers (1)
We can never become approved workers unless, like Ezra, we determine and set ourselves apart to study the word of God, practise it and teach others to do so.
2 Timothy 2:15 AMP
“Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth.”
Let’s conclude this series of teachings by looking at the benefits and impact that reading and studying the scriptures has on us, and how it prepares us for God’s approval.
1. IT HELPS OUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND MATURITY
Matthew 4:4b NKJV
“…But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'”
* We nourish and keep our physical bodies strong and healthy with food, good food. Without food and the nutrients it contains, we become malnourished, and our bodies grow weak and cannot function properly. In the same way, we nourish and feed ourselves with God’s word, which causes us to grow and mature spiritually. By “feeding” on God’s word, we will become mature Christians.
1 Peter 2:2 TPT
_“In the same way that nursing infants cry for milk, you must intensely crave the pure spiritual milk of God’s Word. For this “milk” will cause you to grow into maturity, fully nourished and strong for life.” _
Job 23:12 NKJV
“I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.”
* As believers, we have a hunger that can only be satisfied by God’s word, anything else will leave us feeling hungry and weak. Without the word of God, our growth and maturity are stunted. Unfortunately, so many believers are immature because they have not been well-fed on the word. ( Amos 8:11-12 )
Hebrews 5:12-14 NLT
“[12] You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. [13] For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. [14] Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.”
* Did you hear that? “Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.” This is what distinguishes us, and makes us approved workers of God! AMEN!
